Two Children

Description:

 1.  Card stock, dark maroon front, dark maroon back, rounded corners, not beveled, gild edges (Typical of period 1880-1890).  Narrow maroon border, wider at bottom.

2.  4 3/16” w x 6 3/8” h (card stock)

3.  4”w x 5 19/13” h (image size)

4.  Large lace collars, boys’ pants were below the knee w/button plackets, also seen on jackets which were very square, buttoning to the top (Typical of period 1880-1890)

5.  Photographer’s mark on bottom front “Stevenson 271 Broadway, Brooklyn, E.D.”  Photographer’s mark on reverse same as front with butterflies & birds – gild gold text.  Joshua Stevens, Photographer @ 271 B’way is listed in the 1879 Brooklyn City Directory, no longer in business by 1897

6.  Source: old album owned by John F. Tafel (L), Philadelphia through his father, Leonard Immanuel Tafel, and uncle, Louis Leonard Tafel; both sons of Louis Herman Tafel.
