Three Ladies

The photo on the left was taken around the time of 1893 to 1898. The young woman on far right is Ann Augusta Caroline Tafel, wife of Louis Leonard Tafel, and daughter of Adolph & Anna Boericke Tafel. Let us know if you have information on the other two ladies.

The source of the picture was an old photo album owned by John F. Tafel of Philadelphia. John received the album from his father Leonard Immanuel Tafel and his Uncle, Louis Leonard Tafel. Both Leonard and Louis were sons of Louis Herman Tafel. Here is additional information about the photo:

1.  Tintype, black border along short sides;   3 15/32”w x 2 3/8” h (plate);                4 3/4”w x 3 3/8” h pink paper case

2.  Photographer’s mark “EA Holton, 8 Summer St., Boston” – paper cover annotated with oval raised-paper photographer’s mark “ E. A. Holton, 8 Summer St., Boston cor. Of Washington” (E. A. Holton, 8 Summer, Boston at least between 1874-1898 (photographer/stamp dealer).  Operated between 1874-1911 at this location.

3.     Plate & paper cover w/square corners.

4.   Clothing from approx. 1893-1898, pleated sleeves ca. 1896.

5.  Young woman on far right is Ann Augusta Caroline Tafel, wife of Louis Leonard Tafel, and daughter of Adolph & Anna Boericke Tafel; identified by John F. Tafel (L).

6.  Source: old album owned by John F. Tafel (L), Philadelphia through his father, Leonard Immanuel Tafel, and uncle, Louis Leonard Tafel; both sons of Louis Herman Tafel.
